W3C Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) 2010-10-14 Data Efficient XML Interchange (EXI) is a W3C standard that significantly reduces the network bandwidth required to exchange XML information. As such, it accelerates XML transmission and enables XML to be used in environments that have very limited bandwidth. XML is a very verbose data format that requires 10-100 times more bandwidth than previous data formats. As such, it is slow to transmit and is not generally practical or possible to use on lower-bandwidth networks. The W3C EXI standard significantly accelerates the transmission of XML information and expands its use to very low-bandwidth environments, including small mobile devices, vehicles, aircraft, boats, sensors and satellite systems. Not only does this expand the reach of XML systems, but it enables systems that operate in low-bandwidth environments to tap into the cost savings, interoperability and rapid evolution associated with the open XML standards and technologies.
